Texarkana, Texas Police warn of yet another scam targeting elderly people in our area. Police say several incidents have been reported. On several occasions in the last week, the police department reports that a black male has approached elderly people and told them that he can get them discounted merchandise at large chain stores, such as Walmart or Home Depot. He reportedly tells them that his name is “Tony Sanders,” and that he works for the store as a truck driver.

Explaining that only employees can get them the special pricing available, the man takes money from the victims and goes into the store to speak with an associate to make the purchase on their behalf. The suspect then leaves the store out another door with the victim’s money.

The police department warns that even smart people fall victim to these types of schemes all too frequently. People who prey upon others with these scams are often quite convincing and very charming. As a result, people often let down their guard thinking that this outwardly nice person wouldn't do anything to hurt them. Unfortunately, however, police say nothing could be further from the truth as the man's only motivation is to separate you from your hard earned money.

Texarkana, Texas Police remind you that if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. If you are approached by such a person offering to do you a favor in exchange for money or credit cards, don't do it. Instead, call the authorities immediately.

If you have any information on this scam or any other scams, you are urged to call Texarkana, Texas Police, or Texarkana Area Crime Stoppers. The Crime Stoppers number is (903) 793-STOP or (903) 793-7867.
