Texas A&M University-Texarkana will celebrate the worlds of comic book “Heroes and Villains” during National Library Week April 9-15 with a variety of events and activities in the John F. Moss Library on the third floor of the University Center, according to a press release.

On Monday, April 10, the library will host a book art workshop at 10AM.  Book art involves painting, cutting, carving, stitching or otherwise transforming books and printed publications into works of art.

On Tuesday, April 11, the library’s book club will host a Program for Learning and Community Engagement event about "Love and Rockets: Maggie the Mechanic," a popular graphic novel by Jaime Hernandez. Moderated by Dr. Drew Morton, the discussion will begin at 12:15PM in the Tri-State Iron & Metal Atrium on the third floor of the University Center. Free copies of the novel are available in the library while supplies last.

After the discussion the library will unveil a recently acquired collection of graphic novels.

The third annual Edible Book Contest is set for Wednesday, April 12, from 11AM  - 12:30PM Entries should delivered to the Tri-State Iron & Metal Atrium starting at 8:30AM and no later than 10AM for judging.

“I am always excited to see what people come up with to represent their chosen book.  For inspiration people can visit the A&M-Texarkana John F. Moss Library Facebook page for past edible book entries and winners located in the photo albums,” said Teri Stover, director of the John F. Moss Library.

On Thursday, April 13, the library will host its first Comic Con Day from 1-6PM with games, prizes and a cosplay contest. Cosplay is a contraction of the words costume play in which participants wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent specific characters.

“Every year we choose a theme for library week and dress up.  When planning this week’s activities we decided it would be fun to have others dress as Superheroes and Villains, too,” Stover said. “That’s how the Comic Con Day idea sprang forth and it seems like a lot of students are excited about the event.”

All events are free and open to the public.

The John F. Moss Library is open Mondays through Thursdays from 7:30AM to 10PM, Fridays from 7:30AM to 5PM, Saturdays from 10AM to 6PM and Sundays from 1-9PM.
