It's always nice to hear when a regional musician gets his shot at the big time. Jeremy Phifer, who hails from Blossom, Texas and now resides in Paris, Texas auditioned June 20 for NBC's The Voice.

Phifer will debut his self-penned song “Devil In Disguise.” The audition took place at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.

“Take The L Out Of Lover” brought national attention to this Texan’s talent in 2014. The song was released and promoted by HMG Nashville and stayed on the Music Row Country chart for almost 30 weeks reaching the Top 50.

This independent artist has just released his follow up single, “Never Too Late To Run.” Phifer knows "The Voice" is an incredible opportunity to get discovered and hopes he can turn the chairs of the right judge. It could turn out to be a strange twist of fate if country superstar Blake Shelton is the one. Phifer had the opportunity to open for Blake Shelton a few years back and won't soon forget the experience.

I met Phifer a few years ago when he stopped by for an interview on my radio show. I got the impression he was a very humble, down to earth guy who had big dreams and goals to take is music to a higher level.

Phifer had two passions when he was in high school -- football and music. Playing defensive end and wide receiver, he also became active in his school’s jazz band. But it was the school's music director who inspired him to follow a musical path, eventually landing him in a group that would play the Galaxy Club in Dallas.

Several bands and a few years later, he is now known as Jeremy Phifer and The Texas Badwater Band . The band went on to win numerous awards including a local talent competition "Paris Idol" in 2009 and, in 2010 The North Texas Colgate Country Showdown. And, most recently the band competed in Grant, Okla., at Choctaw Casino against seven other bands and also won that competition.

So don't be surprised if you see this small town Texas boy singing his heart out on this season's The Voice. The verdict is still out. Stay tuned!
