The Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) announced the winners from its 32nd Gold Circle Awards program. For the newspaper, magazine, yearbooks and digital media categories, this year attracted 11,110 entries produced by students at colleges, universities and secondary schools throughout the United States.Judges cited a total of 1,471 winners for either First, Second or Third Place or for Certificates of Merit for those deemed worthy of honorable mention in a category. Awards reflect entries produced between June 11, 2014 and June 10, 2015.

Texas High School students earned eight Gold Circle Awards in the newspaper category. They are:

Ahja Cherry – First Place in General or Humor Commentary for “Volleyball”

Savannah Pritchard – First Place in Photo Illustration Portfolio

Maggie Coleman – Second Place in Page One Design for “Charity Challenges”

Tyler Snell – Third Place in Op-Ed Design for “Friend or Foe” and Certificate of Merit in Sports News for “Jumping Hurdles”

Jessica Emerson – Certificate of Merit in Sports Page Design for “Season Veterans”

Alex Heo, Raga Justin & Naveen Malik – Certificate of Merit in General/Humor Commentary for “Cheng, Chang, Chong”

Tiger Times Staff – Certificate of Merit in Overall Design.
