The Academy of Texas Music will present Julia Beers in concert this Friday, January 31, at the Texas Music Barn, 301 E. Houston St. in Linden, TX. The show is a fundraiser for the Barn's ADA compliant entrance ramp.

Since opening, the Texas Music Barn as struggled with allowing physically challenged visitors to see shows. The famous steps in front of the 'old Methodist church,' which is now the Barn, have intimidated many and prevented others from entering the building.

The new entrance, which will be in the rear of the building, facing Graham Street, will be a very easy walk for patrons, and will also be wheelchair accessible.

Funds for building the ramp and an ADA compliant restroom inside the building are coming from donations from the public. The Barn has already raised more than $2,500 toward the project, but Academy Board Chairman, Lucky Boyd, says more is needed, "Just the first ADA phase of the building is going to cost about $4000 in materials alone. All the work will be done by volunteers."

Boyd adds, "We are hoping to raise the rest of the money quickly. This will allow us to finish the project prior to the 12th annual Texas Music Awards, which will be held here on March 22.  Also, we can't say enough about our partners, Trico Lumber. Through a special pricing deal with them, we are able to keep the expenditures for this project right here in Linden."

The Academy of Texas Music hopes that everyone can enjoy the venue, and completing the ramped entrance will allow that to happen, according to Boyd.

Julia Beers is a talented young singer from Cass County. She has released her first album, a self-titled EP, which will be for sale at the show. More about Julia Beers at www.mytexasmusic.com/juliabeers
