The Salvation Army of Texarkana is facing a significant funding deficit and unless additional funding sources are secured quickly they will have no alternative but to cut back services to the community.

Over the last year The Salvation Army of Texarkana has provided essential services such as direct rental and utility assistance to individuals and families at risk of becoming homeless, as well as rapid re-housing funds toward rental and utility deposits to establish formerly homeless families and individuals at a cost of over $100,000.

The mission statement of The Salvation Army is that the organization will “meet human needs without discrimination” and today in Texarkana that is done through a wide range of services including a vibrant Boys & Girls Club, a family homeless shelter that has provided warm beds and hot meal every day to over 12,878 people a year and a Community Food Pantry.

“Our programs are helping people on a deeper level and as a result we are seeing more effective and longer lasting positive results in the lives of those we serve.  However, despite our best efforts, due to the strength of our programs and the increased demand from the community, we find ourselves needing to raise $100,000 by October 1, 2016 to avoid any interruptions in services”, said Captain Stephen Correira, Corps Officer for Salvation Army.

In recent months several programs have been streamlined in an effort to save money but The Salvation Army continues to see more and more people, from all walks of life, coming through its doors seeking help.

“The Salvation Army is committed to serve the needs of the citizens of Texarkana. In order to continue the tradition of more than 120 years of essential service, we are appealing for your support,” said Captain Correira. Please make a donation today that will provide life changing services to those in need through The Salvation Army.”
