Remember when the first VCR came out we all rushed to the store to buy one so we could record all our favorite shows?

Back in the day there were two types of video cassettes available the beta max a smaller video formatted cassette and the VHS the bigger more chunky recording cassette that eventually led to movies that you could rent. Eventually, the beta max died then the VHS and now the VCR (Video Cassette Recorder) is going to the tech graveyard because it has gotten to hard to find parts to repair them and like most tech products they get phased out over time for more advanced high tech gadgets. Lucky for me my VCR still works but I hardly ever use it, but it's nice to know I have one just in case I run across an old movie that's not available on DVD or online. As a matter of fact, I have an original copy of "The Town That Dreaded Sundown" on VHS which I haven't been able to find on any other format. Funai a Japanese company is one of the last companies to be producing the VCR which is actually made in China and then shipped out for other companies to sell like Sanyo.

According to PC World they have sold 750,000 but will stop selling them at the end of this month. So if you've got some special family moments you recorded it's best to have them transferred to a DVD or your computer for safety's sake just in case your old VCR bites the dust. Otherwise, I'm sure for awhile you can still find one at Amazon or at a garage sale.
