Tim McGraw will be pulling double duty in March when the new movie The Shack is released: Not only is he featured in the film, he has the starring song! In a recent interview, the country star revealed that "Keep Your Eyes on Me," written and performed by McGraw and his wife, Faith Hill, will be released as The Shack's title song.

Based on the bestselling novel of the same name, The Shack tells the story of a man who experiences a crisis of faith following a family tragedy, only to find it again in an abandoned shack in the Oregon wilderness. McGraw plays a friend of the main character, but it wasn't until after his acting duties were complete that producers asked him to write a song for the film.

"I was watching the movie with Faith, because they’d asked us to write a song for it. It wasn’t completely finished yet, but it was done where you could get the essence of it," McGraw tells Country Countdown USA. "There must have been six parts where there were complete fall-apart moments. We walked out with some song ideas. Lori McKenna, Faith, I and Shane McAnally wrote the title song for the movie. I think it’s going to touch a lot of people.”

Fans will recognize McKenna as the writer of McGraw's 2016 hit "Humble and Kind," and McAnally is one of the most well-known songwriters in Nashville, having penned hits such as Keith Urban's "John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16," among many others. Although they all loved "Keep Your Eyes on Me," McGraw wasn't positive that it would become the featured single.

"We actually wrote a couple songs, but that was the favorite one we’d written," he explains. "That actually came from a line in the movie. There’s a part where that line is spoken, and it was so powerful, and we took that and ran with it.”

In addition to playing the character of Willie, McGraw also acts as The Shack's narrator. He admits that the role was a natural fit given his career.

“I didn’t find it challenging; I liked it, actually," he shares. "Because, at my core of what I do, I think I’m a storyteller. I think that came naturally to me when I was reading the narration.”

Along with McGraw, The Shack features an all-star cast that includes Sam Worthington and Octavia Spencer. The film is set for release on March 3.

His new film isn't the only big item on McGraw's calendar in 2017: He and Hill are hitting the road for their Soul2Soul Tour beginning in early April.
