Last week I wrote a feature story on songs that mention Texarkana. So this week I thought I would follow it up with a story about movies that reference Texarkana.

I was surprised to learn that there are actually many movies in which Texarkana gets the spotlight.

1. The Town That Dreaded Sundown - a Charles B. Pierce cult classic about the notorious 1946 Phantom serial killer who struck terror in Texarkana, a case that still remains an unsolved mystery today. Like many back in the day, I actually played an extra in this film.

2. The Legend of Boggy Creek - another Charles B. Pierce classic about a hairy ape-like Bigfoot creature that stalked the soggy bottoms of southwest Arkansas better know as the Fouke Monster.

3. Smokey and The Bandit - Burt Reynolds (Bandit) and Jerry Reed (Snowman) starred in this movie about making a trucking run to haul beer over county lines. The beer pickup was in Texarkana.

4. Walk The Line - a biopic about the early years of the man in black, Johnny Cash, who battles his inner demons of alcoholism. All the while, he becomes one of country music's beloved legendary icons. There is a scene in the movie that shows Elvis playing in Texarkana in 1955.

5. Vacation - a remake of the 1983 classic comedy that originally starred Ed Helms as the bumbling Clark Griswold. In one scene in this movie, the family travels down the interstate through Arkansas and you see a road mileage sign that reads "Texarkana."

6. Return to Boggy Creek - a follow up to the first Boggy Creek movie touted as "The Family Adventure Picture of the Year!"

7. One False Move - Following a series of drug deals and murders, three criminals -- Fantasia (Cynda Williams), Ray Malcolm (Billy Bob Thornton) and Pluto (Michael Beach) -- travel from Los Angeles to Houston, finally arriving in a small Arkansas town to go into hiding.

8. A Perfect World - a movie that starred Clint Eastwood and Kevin Costner about a kidnapped boy who strikes up a friendship with an escaped convict.

9. Norwood - Novel by Charles Portis, Norwood is a 1970 movie that starred Glen Campbell (Norwood) as a marine who returns home from Vietnam with his greatest ambition to appear on the famed Louisiana Hayride in Shreveport, La. Watch the full movie below!

10. 2 Fast 2 Furious - in the sequel to Fast and the Furious franchise, an ex-cop on the run, Brian O'Connor (Paul Walker) gets hooked on outlaw racing.

Other movies also make also reference to Texarkana but, they have R-rated trailers so I won't show them here. They include:
