Heavy rain in a short time period is causing traffic headaches and Flash Flooding problems this Monday morning in Texarkana.

Texarkana Texas Police are reporting problems at several locations in the city this morning. Authorities say of particular concern at this time are St. Michael Drive just east of Sam’s Club, West 40th/Potomac, and Summerhill Road/Moores Lane.  Vehicles have stalled in these locations attempting to drive through high waters and had to be rescued by first responders.

Police say remember that the first rule of driving in flooded waters is, DON'T.  Find another route.  That's the only sure way to avoid getting stranded.  Just six inches of standing water – sometimes less – can be enough to cause your engine to stall and leave you stranded.  At approximately one foot of standing water, a typical car can begin to float.  As traction is lost, so is steering control.
As a rule of thumb, don’t drive into water that is too deep to see the painted markings on the road.
Drive carefully and avoid these area and other spots that typically flood in conditions such as what we are experiencing this morning until the rain slackens and the waters recede.
