Mother's Day weekend is going to be very special in historic Old Washington State Park, Ark.

May 8

The fun begins with a 19th Century "Girls Night Out" from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. where you and a guest can enjoy a trip back in time with a Victorian style meal at William's Tavern, period music and a surrey ride through the streets of Old Washington. Special programs will be presented during the evening and reservations are required. Admission is $25 per person and tickets may be purchased by calling 870-983-2684.

May 9

Then on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, Historic Washington’s Candle Shop invites you to  be part of a hands-on experience making candles and learning the history of candle making. Not only will you make your own creations, but you will take them home so everyone can enjoy the colors and fragrances of the candle that you create. The workshop is limited to 10 people. Must be 12 years and older. Registration is required. Cost:$20.

Other activities include a Basic Outdoor Skills Workshop where participants can learn the basic skills needed for activities such as camping, fire making, survival cooking, and primitive shelter building. Space is limited and registration is required, Cost:$60

And to round out the day Dancing With The Stars "Washington Style" from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.  Join the park staff for an exciting class that will leave you with unforgettable memories. Throughout history, dance has been not only an art form but a way to socialize and make new friends. Come alone or with a partner and you will leave with new friends and new knowledge of dances such as the Virginia Reel, and many more. Refreshments will be served and a minimum of six participants is required. No dance experience necessary. Come dressed casual or period dress as you like.  Cost is $18 per couple or $10 each.

May 10 Mother's Day

Treat Mom for Mother's Day at William's Tavern Restaurant from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  This is a great place for a meal to please the whole family. Visit with friends and family while dining on pork tenderloin, roast beef, green beans, corn, creamed potatoes, glazed carrots, fresh rolls and a tasty dessert. You may even choose to include a ride on the horse drawn surrey or a tour of some of the famous sites in the park. Meal costs: $10.99 Surrey and Tour fees not included.
