Dierks Bentley Is Floored After U2 Play His Song in Concert [Watch]

Dierks Bentley got the surprise of a lifetime on Saturday (Sept. 16) when he found out one of the world’s biggest rock groups had incorporated one of his songs into their live show.

During a Louisiana stop on their 2017 Joshua Tree Tour, U2 decided to break into a mini-singalong of Bentley’s hit “Drunk on a Plane” during a mashup with their own song “Beautiful Day.” Adding their own spin to the country song while singing their chart-topping hit, Bono takes lead vocals in the clip, singing the lines “It’s Mardi Gras up in the clouds / I’m up so high, I may never come down” back-to-back, with the crowd getting a chuckle out of the Mardi Gras reference.

“Trying to process… #U2 breaking into drunk on a plane last night. Can’t make this up. #drunkonaplane #beautifulday,” Bentley writes in disbelief alongside the Facebook video.

Bono is almost a mentor figure to the country star, with Bentley revealing in an interview with Radio.com that he’s actually sent some of his music to the rock star for feedback. Bono apparently digs “Here on Earth” off Bentley’s 2014 album, Riser.

“I guess I have a tradition now of sending a song or two to Bono for every record and getting a response,” Bentley says.

The country singer will have one of his songs featured in an upcoming movie called Only the Bravewhich chronicles the journey of the heroic firefighters who battled the most disastrous fire in the history of his home state of Arizona. The film will be released on Oct. 20.
