UofA Hope-Texarkana Sees Historic Enrollment Increases

The University of Arkansas at Hope-Texarkana welcomed 1,531 students this fall, a 9% increase over the previous school year.  This increase represents the second highest enrollment in the fifty year history of the college, second only to the record of 1,557 students set in fall 2010. 

The enrollment increase is the result of growth across most areas of both the Hope and Texarkana campuses.  In addition, the UofA Texarkana campus set a new on-campus enrollment record with a 49% increase over the previous year.

Chancellor Chris Thomason stated, “UAHT is excited to be a state-wide leader in growing access and opportunity for students in our region.  The growth in our enrollment is a strong indicator of our commitment to serve our students and support the region’s economic growth.  We are grateful that a record number of students recognize the personal benefit and tremendous value of starting and completing their educational journey right here with their University of Arkansas System institution.”

Adding to the boost in enrollment was a large number of new students from the region’s 2016 high school graduating classes.  The percentage of Arkansas High School student enrollment at the college increased by 10.2%.  Genoa Central High School student enrollment increased by 16.8%.  The percentage of Hope High School students who enrolled at the college increased by 12.5%.  Students from Lafayette County High School who enrolled at the college jumped by 23.9%.

The college also recorded increases in students from Hempstead, Nevada, and Miller Counties in Arkansas and Bowie County Texas.  Miller County students jumped by 12.32%.  Hempstead County students increased by 7%.  Students from Nevada County increased by 3.9%.  Bowie County students represented the largest increase at 34.15%. Cass County followed closely with an increase of 33.33%.

“With the addition of the Adult Education program to our campus and the UALR-Texarkana and UAMS partnerships, we now offer opportunities for students from the GED to bachelor degrees on our campuses,” said Vice Chancellor for Student Services Brian Berry.
