Denny Hamlin picked up his third win of the season Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway, and some tempers were flaring.

In an effort to bring back some side by side action that race fans love, the speedway milled some of the banking off of the outside lane of the track.  (For most of the race, I didn’t think it did any good… I was wrong.)  The race had 13 cautions, and a lot of drama.

Juan Pablo Montoya crashed Ryan Newman out of the race, and knocked him out of a provisional wild-card spot for the Cup Chase. Regan Smith made a little contact with Danica Patrick, and sent her hard into the wall on the front-stretch.  The crash of the night, with the most significance to the outcome of the race, and the Cup point standings was the run in between Tony Stewart and Matt Kenseth on lap 332.  Stewarts car was faster, but Kenseth had the lead, and as the two cars raced side by side, they made contact in turn 4, and banged back and forth until both cars got sideways as they crossed the start/finish line.  Kenseth made impact with the wall, and Stewart crashed into Kenseth’s car.  Matt was able to drive away, but Tony was not, and climbed from his car.  As Kenseth came back by, Stewart thru his helmet at Kenseth’s Ford hitting it square on the nose.

Tony Stewart had this to say about the incident,

From now until the end of the year, I’m going to run over him every chance I got… every chance I’ve got”

Next weekend the Sprint Cup Series will travel to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Advocare 500.  The race will air on ESPN beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday September 2.
