A Texas A&M University-Texarkana student is hospitalized with a confirmed case of viral meningitis. Aseptic meningitis is serious but rarely fatal in people with normal immune systems.

The campus community has been contacted and encouraged to take appropriate steps. A&M-Texarkana officials are maintaining ongoing  communications with the family on the case and to ensure timely ipdates are made available to the university faculty, staff and students.

Anyone experiencing symptoms that include fever, chills , lethargy, a rash of fine red freckles or purple splotches, severe headaches, and/or neck pain and stiffness should contact their health care provider.
