Punxsutawney Phil, the famous groundhog predicted an early spring, it didn't happen. The question is who to blame. Last week an Ohio prosecutor, light heartedly filed a criminal indictment against Phil for fraud, seeking the death penalty for the furry prognosticator.

Now the president of the Punxatawney Groundhog Club's Inner Circle says that Phil rightly predicted six more weeks of winter, but it was he, a human, who mistakenly announced the prediction of an early spring.

Maybe this is why the groundhog has predicted an early spring only a handful of times over the last 100 years. It's easier to get away with a mistake if you predict six more weeks of winter and spring comes early, because everyone is so happy about spring arriving they don't care.
