Have we finally found a suitable backup for No. 9?

Say what you want about NFL preseason football, I still love it. For one, it's football on my television in mid-August. Why would anyone complain about that? It's also a chance to see my favorite college guys actually get on the field. I mean, more often than not, the rookies don't get to see the field that much. They are forever shadowed by the veterans and starters.

It also a chance to see what kind of cards you have in the deck.

For the Cowboys, that's seeing if the chance you took on a rookie quarterback named Dak Prescott was worth your pick. If their preseason game against the newly relocated Los Angeles Rams was any indicator, it was worth every single dime. A standout at Mississippi State, Dak owned the field Saturday night completing 10 of 12 passes for 139 yards. He even recorded two touchdowns.

He also removed all doubts.

Ok, I know what you die-hard Cowboys fans are saying, "It's just one game and it was against the Rams, for crying out loud." I would agree with all of this. However, when was the last time you felt comfortable handing anyone the ball on Dallas' offensive side that wasn't wearing No. 9? Even veterans struggled to fill his shoes. Finally, I think we've found someone who can at least make us breath a sigh of relief.

I'm not saying Dak should start over Romo, but if Romo goes down with another injury this year, I think we're in pretty capable hands.

Now if the O line would just create a decent pocket for the man.
