Motorists traveling on Highway 59 between Shepherd and Cleveland are being advised of multiple lane closures that are scheduled to take place between Tuesday, December 8, and Saturday, December 13, weather permitting. Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation are getting the word out through media and advanced signage of these closures, which are expected to cause some delays to drivers.

Scheduled Closures

The first of the closures is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, and will affect different portions of the southbound main lane of Highway 59 between FM 2914 and Our Road. Various closures will be necessary as bridge beams are delivered and moved into the construction zone near Red Road. The lane closures are only scheduled between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and police escorts will be in the affected area. This work is expected to be completed by Saturday, December 13.

The second scheduled closing is expected to occur from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10. Crews will be doing electrical work on lighting poles on the right shoulder of the Highway 59 bypass to Washington Avenue. This will affect the northbound traffic on Highway 59.

Then, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, to Friday, December 12, the right shoulder on the southbound frontage road at the Loop 573/Washington Avenue exit will close for electrical work.

Drivers should slow down and use caution when approaching any of these work areas and watch for workers and equipment moving in the area, or plan to take alternate routes. Remember, fines for traffic violations in work zones increase.
