180 Torrid Stores to Shut Down: What You Need to Know
(Mix 93-1) The retail landscape has gone through a dramatic shift over the last five years. Customers' shopping habits have changed, and more and more customers are choosing to shop online than in-store.
Because of shifting shopping preferences, many retailers are having to adjust their strategy and change with customer needs.

Changes are affecting every aspect of the retail world and not just clothing, but home goods, restaurants, auto part stores, and more.

Why Is Torrid Closing So Many Stores?
Torrid, the plus-size and intimates retailer for women, operates 632 stores across the US dropped the news last week that they would be closing up to 180 of their underperforming locations.
During an earnings call last week, company CEO Lisa Harper said, "Digital continues to be customers' preferred shopping tool, which makes up 70% of total demand."
Which Torrid Locations Are at Risk?
So far, no details have been released on which specific stores face closure.
Harper goes on to say that physical Torrid stores,
"serve as community hubs and immersive brand-building experiences, introducing customers to our brand and sub-brands, offering the dressing room experience, and acting as service centers for purchases made online or in stores. Most importantly, our passionate sales associates bring the brand to life, delivering personalized service that deepens customer connection and drives long-term loyalty."

What This Means for East Texas Shoppers
Torrid's solo East Texas location in Tyler at The Village at Cumberland Park shopping center on S Broadway is still open as normal. Torrid has locations in Terrell, Garland, Dallas, Cedar Hill, Allen, and Plano, all within 100 miles of Tyler. There are additional locations throughout Texas.
