In Lisa Marie Presley's posthumous memoir From Here to the Great Unknown, her daughter Riley Keough recalls the difficult — and painfully public — experience of learning her superstar mother had died.

Keough agreed to help her mother tell her story before Presley died in early 2023, and after her death, Keough finished the book by listening to audio recordings of her mother's memories.

Before Presley officially died, the public was aware her life was hanging in the balance. TMZ originally reported that she was rushed to the hospital after suffering "full" cardiac arrest at her home in California. First responders performed CPR and administered epinephrine "at least one time" before transporting her to a hospital facility.

When the news broke, Keough was filming a show in Canada, according to a segment in the memoir reported on by Us Weekly. She quickly hopped a plane to Los Angeles.

"I felt like my mother was between two worlds," she remembers of that time. As she traveled, Keough says she tried to communicate with her mother's "spirit," and told her it was okay to "go."

Her dad, Danny Keough, was keeping her updated on Presley's condition, but messages started coming fewer and further between, and eventually, Keough says she was able to read between the lines.

Eventually, he sent her a text with the news.

"She passed a few minutes ago, honey. Didn't want to tell you by text," he wrote. "But I'm worried it's going to hit the papers."

"I love you so much I'm really sorry to tell you like this," he continued. "I don't want you to be blindsided when you get off the plane."
