We've all watched those shows like "Survivor" and "Duel Survivor" that teach us about how to survive in the wild with the least amount of tools or nothing at all. Well, don’t miss Survival Skills Weekend at Daisy State Park hosted by the park staff February 20-22. Free programs include “Introduction to Geocaching,” and “Meet and Greet Campfire” which includes marshmallows and hot cocoa for all guest, plus stargazing, and that is just on Friday.

Saturday you will want to register in advance for the “Cast Iron Cookware” workshop. Admission is $10. Workshop begins at 8 a.m. ending at 10 a.m. and includes a great hands-on “breakfast” cooking experience for all.

The “Fire Starting Workshop,” “Edible Plants,” and “Introduction to Trapping and Snaring” are all Saturday Workshops that for an admission of $10 each will fill up fast, so registration is open now. Free Programs offered on Saturday will include “Arkansas Wildlife,” “Survival Water Purification,” “Cane Pole Fishing,” “Survival Par-a-cord,” and a favorite for children between ages seven to 11, “Hug A Tree."

For $5 you can learn to prepare your very own “Survival Pack” to have ready for your next outdoor adventure. Everything wraps up on Sunday with the “Survival Skills Challenge Course.”
