Officers with the Hooks Police Department were called to an address in the 200 block of Grant Street just before midnight Saturday August 31 for a domestic disturbance call. There they found the victim lying on the ground and arrested her alleged killer.

Historical facts frequently get lost over time. But thanks to the extensive records kept at the genealogy section of the Hooks Public Library, I discovered some fascinating facts about the Hooks family tree and the small town’s humble beginnings.

For many, Ramage Farms is synonymous with the thick steaks or mouthwatering barbecue their restaurants used to serve up. On Oct. 5, 2011, however, the Hooks restaurant burned to the ground when a grease fire started in the barbecue pit. Since then, residents, customers and old family friends have wondered if Brent Ramage would rebuild and start all over again.
