On-Duty Crash Leads to DWI Charges and Resignation for Arkansas State Trooper

An Arkansas State Police corporal has resigned following his arrest on DWI-related charges after a single-vehicle crash while on duty.

According to an Arkansas State Police press release, Corporal John M. Parker, 45, of Camden, resigned from the agency on August 23.

Arkansas Trooper Arrested Following On-Duty Crash

Troopers arrested Parker on Friday, August 21 after he was involved in a single-vehicle wreck while driving an Arkansas State Police vehicle. The crash happened around 7:30 PM on U.S. Highway 278 near Monticello.

ASP said Standardized Field Sobriety Tests that were taken after the crash indicated the trooper was driving impaired.

As a result, Parker was charged with Driving While Intoxicated/Drugs and Careless and Prohibited Driving.

No Injuries Reported

Authorities said Parker was not injured in the crash and, luckily, no one else was hurt.

Details about what led to the wreck have not been released, and Arkansas State Police have not provided any additional information regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Internal Investigation Underway

Arkansas State Police says the agency's Office of Professional Standards has opened an internal investigation into the matter.

At the same time, ASP's Highway Patrol Division is conducting a separate investigation into the crash itself.

Officials have not announced when either of the investigations are expected to be completed.

More Than A Decade With ASP

Parker joined Arkansas State Police in 2014 and served with the agency for approximately 12 years before his resignation.

His resignation became effective on Sunday, August 23, two days after his arrest.

Arkansas State Police says no additional information is being released at this time.
