
Deadly Arkansas Tornadoes Leave 3 Dead, 32 Injured
The storms that ripped through Arkansas Saturday, spawned multiple tornados, one possibly an EF4, claimed three lives in Independence County, and injured 32 across the state, according to the Arkansas Emergency Management Department (ADEM).
ADEM staff were called in to the State Emergency Operations Center due to the extensive storm damage reports coming in from all over the state.
Sixteen Arkansas counties reported damage, including:
- Baxter
- Clark
- Fulton
- Green
- Hempstead
- Hot Spring
- Independence
- Izard
- Jackson
- Lawrence
- Nevada
- Phillips
- Randolph
- Sharp
- Stone
- Woodruff
Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has declared a State of Emergency due to due to the widespread damage and power outages in multiple counties. The governor's declaration will remain in effect until Saturday, March 29 unless lifted earlier.
In response, the State Emergency Operations Center has coordinated aid to the effected areas. The Arkansas Rural Water Association has delivered three generators to Sharp County , while AT&T and Verizon have both deployed a satellite on wheels to maintain communications in Cave City. At the time of this release, 52 Arkansas National Guardsmen had been deployed to the area to assist with security and general relief efforts.
