Best Places to Eat Catfish in the Texarkana Area
If you grew up in the south, chances are you've had your fill of catfish. After all, that's a southern tradition around this part of the country. There's nothing like some good ol' southern fried catfish and hush puppies. Here's who I think has the best catfish in this area.
Fish Bowl
The Fish Bowl has been around for years. Located near Lake Millwood, it's a short drive from Texarkana but well worth the drive. They have been serving up some of the best southern fried pond-raised catfish for countless generations. They also have a variety of other seafood favorites like shrimp, alligator, fried crawfish, and clams. If you're not into fish no worries, they have a Certified Angus Boneless Ribeye that is to die for. And the best news the Fish Bowl will be opening their newest location June 8, on Arkansas Boulevard right here in Texarkana.
Sam's Southern Eatery
Specializing in Cajun Creole, Seafood, and Southern Fried Catfish. If you want a meal that satisfies your hearty appetite you've come to the right place. Their food portions are plentiful as a matter of fact I find myself taking home a goodie bag every time. Sam's serves everything from fried and grilled catfish, jumbo shrimp, chicken wings, fried gizzards and a variety of sandwiches. At Sam's Southern Eatery all seafood plates come with your choice of two sides, like green beans, cole slaw, okra, or red beans and rice.
Doc's Fish and Steak House
Doc's Fish and Steak House in Garland City, Ark., has been a favorite place for Texarkanians to eat for decades. Located about 23 miles east of Texarkana on Highway 82 Doc's has been serving up some of the best southern cuisine since the late 1960s. The restaurant serves all-you-eat catfish fillets, or whole fish with all the traditional sides. They also have steaks and other seafood.
West Shore Restaurant
Also located in Garland City, Ark. on Highway 82 West Shore opened its doors in 2004 and also has become a hot spot for some of the best catfish steaks and seafood around. They have great service and during these summer months sitting out on the deck overlooking Red River is always nice.
Blue Bayou Catfish & More
Probably one of the best secrets in this area is Blue Bayou Catfish & More located in Nash, Texas. This small restaurant specializes in serving American farm-raised catfish. No imported fish here. All catfish is served with all the trimmings like fries, beans, slaw, and hush puppies. And you have to try their Apple Pie - a la mode for dessert. It's out of this world.
Fat Jacks Oyster and Sports Bar
Fat Jacks has been a local favorite for years. This is where Texarkana meets for good times and great food. They have a great menu of food to choose from but one of my favorites is the catfish basket. The fish is cooked up just right light and tasty with the perfect seasonings and served with fries, and hushpuppies. There's nothing like drinking a cold one, eating some catfish and watching a local band perform on the stage.
Catfish King
Finally, I had to add David Beard's Catfish King to the list of some of the best catfish places to eat. They've been a staple in the community for years and still serve up some of the best southern fried catfish in town. But I have to tell you my favorite is the spicy Cajun catfish basket with the Cajun beans, fries, and slaw.
