Boil Water Notice Issued for Central Bowie County Water Customers
Residents served by the Central Bowie County Water Supply Corporation are being urged to boil their water before use following a notice from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality dated April 22, 2026.
Low Disinfectant Levels Prompt Action
The notice was issued due to low disinfectant residual levels in the water system, which could allow harmful bacteria and other microbes to develop. Officials say all customers should take precautions when using tap water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or making ice.
Location Confusion?
Many residents of Texarkana are concerned that this notice is affecting their drinking water, but Texarkana Water Utilities says no. This boil water notice is for areas outside of Texarkana proper.
Boiling Instructions and Safety Tips
To ensure safety, water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and kept boiling for at least two minutes. After boiling, allow the water to cool before using it. Individuals may also choose to use bottled water or obtain water from another safe source during this time.
Health officials emphasize that children, seniors, and individuals with weakened immune systems are at greater risk and should be especially cautious.
Notice Will Be Lifted When Safe
Officials say customers will be notified once the water is safe to use without boiling. A follow-up notice will be issued to officially lift the advisory.
