David Nail Dishes Story Behind Brothers Osborne Collab [Exclusive Premiere]
The tracks on the record are packed with special guests, but this song in particular has a unique story. Nail says the guys came to him with "Good at Tonight," and he thought they were just showing him one of their new tunes. Turns out, they were handing it over.
“I heard the demo and I was actually kind of mad,” Nail says dryly, explaining that when he realized they were pitching it to him to record, he was worried he’d fall in love with it and they’d later change their minds about recording it themselves.
“They were like, nah, man, if you love it, man, do it,” he recalls. “So I said, I’m gonna do it, but there’s one stipulation: you have to sing on it."
The upbeat tune can be heard in snippets in this BTS clip, premiering on Taste of Country, and it sounds like it’s going to be a standout on the album. It does have some steep competition, though, as the record also includes collaborations with Lori McKenna and Vince Gill, as well as brothers Bo and Bear Rinehart of Needtobreathe. One song, titled "Ease Your Pain," was co-written by country’s beloved Chris Stapleton.
“I truly believe this album, from top to bottom, is the first time I have been able to tell my story in real-time of where I am right now as an artist, a husband and a father,” Nail says in a press release. “I wrote more songs for this album than I have for any of my other three so it’s already more personal. Fighter speaks to my journey, my life and now to where I am personally and professionally."
Fighter is Nail's fourth studio album. It hits shelves July 15.
