Duane "Dog the Bounty Hunter" Chapman says he wishes he had died before his wife, Beth Chapman, to spare his kids the grief they're experiencing now. They're not all doing well, Chapman admits in a new interview.

Speaking to People Now this week, Chapman reveals that some of Beth Chapman's children are "barely making it." The family wasn't prepared, and in reflecting upon the deaths of his own parents, he thinks he realized why. "The guy goes first," he says.

"I went to them and said, ‘I’m so sorry that I didn’t die first and mom did,'" the 66-year-old television stars says. "And they're like, 'Yeah dad, why?'"

Duane Chapman says he wished his own father would have died before his mother. He figures that would have made the grief easier to deal with afterward. It's been two months since Beth Chapman died following a cancer battle. She has four children, two with Duane Chapman. They range in age from 18 to 34. Together they're trying to pick up her responsibilities.

"They are helping cook, because Beth was a fantastic cook," Dog shares. "I am doing their laundry, I’m vacuuming, making my own bed. So I don’t wanna lie, they do nothing. They’re kids. It’s just, ‘Dad’s there, he can do it.’"

Slowly the family has started to do interviews in the wake of the 51-year-old's death and two public memorials. Part of it is a matter of getting back to work. The first season of a new reality television show called Dog's Most Wanted begins on Sept. 4 on WGN. During the series fans will be able to follow Beth Chapman's cancer battle. It's not clear if her death is part of Season 1 or not, but in speaking of the show and her death, Duane Chapman has indicated he's felt her presence while chasing fugitives.

"I'm not afraid to die anymore," Duane Chapman told TV Insider. "I told my camera crew after she (died), 'If something happens to me, you'd better get that shot.' They're like, 'Boss, we will.' I'm not afraid to die now, because I know where I'm going and who I'll get to see again."
