Earth Alert: Geomagnetic Solar Storm Headed Our Way
Planet Earth has been put on alert! A solar storm in the form of a geomagnetic storm is headed our way tomorrow (April 26) and will be in effect for up to 48 hours.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) - Space Weather Prediction Center, the solar storm emits highly energized particles from a solar explosion on the sun.
Power outages, radio signal loss, GPS navigation, satellite blackouts, and fluctuations could occur as well as internet connection, the impact could be minor to moderate with the storm warning. No solar wind is expected with this geomagnetic storm.
The storm is to affect poleward of 65 degrees in latitude could cause weak power grids to be disrupted and the northern lights will be visible in Alaska and Canada.
These storms could go on until April 27, and radio blackouts could still occur from the radiation of these solar storms, according to the US Space Agency. The most likely to be affected by these would-be astronauts, pilots, and passengers flying at high altitudes.
