
Arkansas State Police Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in Fayetteville
The Arkansas State Police (ASP) is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at an apartment complex in Fayetteville. The incident, which took place in the 300 block of North Garnet Court, resulted in the death of 42-year-old Brandon Poulter of Fayetteville.
Details of the Incident
Fayetteville Police Department (FPD) officers responded to a report of a gunshot around noon. When they attempted to make contact with the occupants of an apartment, a subject inside, later identified as Poulter, began firing shots at the officers and even targeted an armored police vehicle.

Officers returned fire, striking Poulter. When officers entered the apartment, they found Poulter deceased. No law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident.
Investigations Underway
The body of the deceased has been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab in Little Rock to determine the official cause and manner of death.
The ASP Criminal Investigation Division will lead the investigation into the use of lethal force. Once complete, their findings will be presented to the Washington County Prosecutor's Office, which will determine if the officers' actions were consistent with Arkansas law. In a separate process, the Fayetteville Police Department will conduct an internal review of departmental policies and procedures related to the shooting.
