Trump Approves Emergency Declaration for Texas Flooding

President Donald Trump has approved a federal emergency declaration for Texas following severe flooding that began on July 12 and continues to impact parts of the state.

FEMA Disaster Relief Kicks In for Texas

The declaration allows the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to coordinate federal disaster relief efforts and provide assistance to state, tribal and local agencies responding to the flooding. The goal is to help save lives, protect property, support public health and safety, and reduce the threat of further damage.

The emergency declaration covers 28 Texas counties, including Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Blanco, Brewster, Comal, Crockett, Dimmit, Edwards, Frio, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Kinney, La Salle, Mason, Maverick, Medina, Menard, Real, Schleicher, Sutton, Terrell, Uvalde, Val Verde, Wilson and Zavala.

Feds Pick Up 3/4 Of The Cost

Under the declaration, FEMA can mobilize personnel, equipment and other resources needed to respond to the disaster. The federal government will cover 75% of the cost of eligible emergency protective measures provided through direct federal assistance.

Roland W. Jackson has been appointed as the Federal Coordinating Officer to oversee federal response efforts in the affected areas.

Additional counties could be added later if damage assessments determine more assistance is needed.
