The Pleasant Grove Hawks are preparing for their best of three series Region Quarterfinal Series with Canton that begins Friday night at ETBU in Marshall.

Before we look at this week's series, let's see how the Hawks got to this point, with their series victory over Bullard.

Game One went to the Hawks 1-0 in extra innings thanks to a terrific pitching performance by ace Nick Voyles, and a clutch walk off hit by Jackson Cobb.

PG Head Baseball Coach Riley Fincher had high praise for his starting pitcher, saying, "Game 1 was definitely a great performance from Nick. He, along with our defense did a great job of keeping Bullard of the scoreboard. There were a few times that Nick was able to pitcher out of jams, which was huge for our team. Being able to win the first game in the series was big for us, especially being able to beat their #1 arm as well."

Fincher added it was more than just clutch pitching, "The game was a total team effort, with great support from our fans and was played in a great environment."

Game Two was not as pretty of a game, as Fincher implied his team came out a little flat, following the extra inning thriller the night before. It was a back and forth game that neither team could put away and Bullard came away with a 1 run victory, which set up a third and deciding game.

The Hawks jumped out early to a lead and never trailed in the final game of the series. Fincher was proud of how his team responded," Offensively we able to put together some good at bats and pushed across some runs in a few innings. Tucker Anderson had a great pitching performance, filling up the strike zone and allowing the defense to make plays behind him."

Now, we look ahead to the Region Quarterfinal Best of Three Series against Canton High School. Canton is a familiar foe for the Hawks who played them in the 3rd round last year. Fincher says they are having a great season, "They are an experienced playoff team led by great pitching and defense."

Fincher says his team understands going into the series they have to be ready to go and locked in from the first pitch on. He adds, "We will need good pitching, defense and hitting to continue, in order to give ourselves an opportunity to keep playing in the playoffs. Whatever the case may be, however, we have to get it done, our goal is to do whatever it takes to help out teammates be successful and continue to play next week."

Game 1 is Friday at 7:30PM, Game 2 is Saturday at 1:30, and if necessary Game 3 would immediately follow at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.

As for the pitching staff, Nick Voyles gets the start in Game 1.

The fan support for Hawks baseball continues to be phenomenal and Coach Fincher says it does not go unnoticed, "Last week in Marshall, the support was great from our fans and community. The entire series was a great atmosphere, maek possible by the great fans. We are extremely blessed as a program to have the support that we have."

Good luck this week to Hawks Baseball!!!!!
