The Kicker Cup advantage may be more clear after this Friday night's local high school football action.

The traveling city championship trophy goes each year to the Texarkana high school football team that finishes the regular season with the best overall record. While we are just a couple of weeks into the 2016 season, Friday night's match ups will go a long way on deciding an eventual winner.

That is because something that has never happened will occur this week. All four Texarkana teams will be in action against each other. Arkansas High is hosting Pleasant Grove in the first ever varsity football game between the two squads.

Meanwhile at Tiger Stadium at Grim Park, the Texas High Tigers host the Liberty-Eylau Leopards. Look for both stadiums to be packed and a playoff atmosphere to be present.

Texas High comes into the action this week at 2-0 having beat Dallas Lynch and Arkansas High, Liberty-Eylau is 0-2 having fallen to Gilmer and Carthage. Arkansas High and Pleasant Grove are both 0-1, with the Hawks losing a one point heartbreaker to Paris.

The Tigers who have won the Kicker Cup more than any other team, could take a decided advantage if they go 3-0 by beating L-E. Meanwhile, a Leopard victory will certainly muddy the waters.

Liberty-Eylau will be operating shuttle bus service from the high school to Tiger Stadium beginning at 5:45PM.

At the end of the regular season, we will go to the winning school's playoff pep rally and present the Kicker Cup Trophy to the coach and his team. The Kicker Cup is sponsored by Red River Credit Union. The traveling trophy from Rogers Trophy has been awarded since 1996.

May the best team win and good luck to all four schools this season.
