Ledwell & Sons Developing New Products to Combat COVID-19
Ledwell & Son Enterprises, Inc, Texarkana, a company that designs and manufactures truck bodies and trailers for use all over the world is putting their skilled machinists and equipment to work creating something else in response to COVID-19.
According to a press release, the Texas-based company is working on products to mitigate the spread of germs in workplaces.
“We’ve been working internally to minimize risk for our own staff as we have continued to manufacture these past couple of months, and as a result, we ended up making two unique products in-house that we are making available to the public,” said Marketing Director Christina Guzman.
The first item is a hands-free door opener called the Tread + Pull that was sparked by an idea from an employee, remote specialist Phillip Anderson. The Tread + Pull is a bracket that fits the bottom of most doors and allows the user to open a door using just their shoe, minimizing contact with the hands. Once the design was perfected, many of Ledwell’s departments jumped into action to create the end product.
“One shop cut the material while another shaped it,” said Guzman. “Then our Machine Shop refined the edges to be smooth, the Graphics department printed decals and installation instructions, and finally Shipping and Receiving packaged and shipped over a thousand around the country. It’s truly been a group effort.”
The other new piece of equipment Ledwell is manufacturing themselves, after not finding a product that met their rigorous standards, is a Protective Sneeze Guard. The customizable, adjustable acrylic guard is designed to protect customers and employees in businesses that have face to face contact with customers. The guards are available to purchase from Ledwell & Son’s sister company, Ledwell Office.
Those who are interested in the Tread + Pull should contact Ledwell’s Parts Dept.
