New Tool For Texans Making College Selection & Application Easy
Texas students now have a new way to find out which college is the best for their interests and needs. Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) recently announced a new program called the "Direct Admissions" initiative.
Choosing a college can be daunting but this new tool will help students apply to colleges more efficiently. It will give high school students a list of colleges where they qualify for admission based on their academic information.
Governor Abbott said in a press release,
One of our top priorities in Texas is to ensure the next generation of Texans have the opportunity to choose the best education options so they can succeed in high-demand, good-paying jobs after graduation., As a father, I understand how confusing and stressful the college application process can be for your family. With the launch of Direct Admissions, the college application process will be made easier for young students and their families to choose the best Texas college or university for them to lead successful lives in our state.
.
Interim Commissioner of Higher Education Sarah Keyton said this tool is an easy process and helps boost confidence and encourage more students to apply by reducing time and increasing transparency.
You can now use Direct Admissions through My Texas Future, a college and career advising website. The tool will provide a list of participating Texas colleges & universities where they qualify for admission based on their class rank, GPA, and test scores.
Students can receive their admissions list by the end of their junior year. Once they receive that they will need to complete the application at ApplyTexas to verify their information. Even if students don't qualify for direct admission to certain schools, they can still apply using the traditional process.
