Tanya Tucker and Dennis Quaid have been spotted together looking very cozy in recent weeks, but they are not dating, sources say.

Quaid and Tucker have appeared together at several country music events recently, including Loretta Lynn's recent 87th birthday tribute concert, where Tucker was spotted sitting in Quaid's lap. They were also photographed together at the 2019 ACM Awards, touching off rumors of a possible romance. A source close to Tucker shot that down to People, saying emphatically, “They are not a couple! They are longtime friends and having a blast collaborating and making music together.”

According to People, 65-year-old Quaid and Tucker, 60, first met in 1981 when he played a country singer in the film The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia. Tucker, who was then just 20 years old and had already been a star since her early teens, recorded a song for the movie, and the two became friends but fell out of touch after the movie wrapped.

Speaking to People before the ACM Awards on Sunday night (April 9), Tucker revealed, "We reconnected a few months back, after [almost] 40 years. So now we've recorded three of his [songs] — and we're working on four more. Because he's really a great writer, and he's a great performer.”

Quaid has equally effusive praise for his friend and collaborator.

"She’s my angel," the actor and singer gushes, adding that Tucker really helped him with a song titled "On My Way to Heaven."

"She heard it and she loved it and she called me and said she wanted to do it. And then she called me 30 minutes later, she said she got Kris Kristofferson!" he recalls. "I’m like, ‘What is this?'”

Though sources deny they're dating, Quaid and Tucker certainly appear to be unusually close. When asked about her ACM after-party plans, Tucker simply pointed at Quaid and said, “Wherever he’s going, I’ll be there."
