Texas 10 Step Program Earned By Christus St Michael

Christus St. Michael Health System received the Texas 10 Step Program designation from the Texas Department of State Health Services.The goal of this program is to encourage as many mothers as possible to breastfeed their babies before going home from the hospital.

Christus St. Michael has lactation consultants who meet with expectant mothers to discuss the many health benefits of breastfeeding their baby. These include decreased obesity, asthma and infection as well as illnesses due to the nutrients and antibodies ingested from the breast milk.

A follow up is conducted by the hospital after discharge to answer any other questions and concerns by the mother as well as give breastfeeding resources. Christus St. Michael also offers classes on breastfeeding tips and techniques.
