Governor Greg Abbott, of the Great State of Texas, has announced that nominations are now open for the 2026 Star of Texas Awards, recognizing first responders and others who were seriously injured or killed in the line of duty.

The annual Texas awards honor peace officers, firefighters, emergency medical responders, and federal law enforcement personnel who have made significant sacrifices while serving their communities. Private citizens may also be nominated if they were injured or killed while assisting first responders during an emergency.

Governor Abbott Statement

In a statement, Governor Abbott said:

“The Star of Texas Award honors the courage and bravery of our peace officers, firefighters, and first responders who have risked their lives to protect their fellow Texans,” said Governor Abbott. “These community heroes have dedicated their lives to a higher purpose and selflessly serve our great state every single day. We thank them for their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to Texans.”

Eligibility and Deadline

To qualify, the incident must have occurred between September 1, 2003, and June 15, 2026. All nominations must be submitted to the Governor’s Office by June 15, 2026.

Nominations for the 2026 Star of Texas Awards can be submitted online through the Office of the Governor.
