According to a press release, a Grannis Police officer responding to a call to help evict a man from a house located on County Road 14 at around 10:30 Saturday night (July 19).

Suspect Engages Officer with Gunfire in Arkansas

When the officer drove up to the house, Darrin Laudermilk, 65 years of age, met him at the driveway with a gun and started shooting. The officer returned fire and hit the man.

Laudermilk died at the scene, and his body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine the cause of death.

Investigation Continues, Case to Go Before Prosecutor

Officer-involved shootings are always investigated to determine if deadly force was justified.  The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is looking over evidence and interviewing witnesses. That information will then go to the Polk County Prosecutor, who will review the case.
