25th Annual Great Texarkana Duck Race August 23
The ducks are racing again! The Friends of the Foundation of CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System will present the 25th Annual Great Texarkana Duck Race on Saturday, Aug. 23, at Holiday Springs Water Park, 5500 Crossroads Parkway, Texarkana, Ark. The 25th Annual Duck Race will benefit programs and services of CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System.
As in the previous 24 years, rubber ducks “adopted” by community supporters will race for prizes including a 2014 Kia Forte from Classic Kia. For the second year in a row, the ducks will splish and splash in the chilly waters of the “River Rapids” Lazy River at Holiday Springs Water Park, “racing” their way around the river at 10:30 a.m. with winners for six prizes announced shortly after 10:30 a.m. The first duck to cross the finish line will win the top duck prize, the 2014 Kia Forte, for the adoptive duck parent. Second prize is a $1,000 Gift Card from Super1 Foods. The third-place duck will win a $1,000 gift certificate for dry cleaning and laundry from Holiday Cleaners. Fourth prize is a Mayo chair and ottoman from Lafferty’s Home Center, and fifth prize is a Yeti Cooler from Ledwell Machinery. A Trollbeads bracelet from Alexander’s Jewelers will be awarded to the sixth place prize winner.
Monkey Island and Splash Mountain Texarkana will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for family fun activities. Admission to the Duck Race will be free with the adoption of one duck ($5 per person) from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. One minor (per duck adopted) will be admitted to the event when accompanied by an adult who adopted a duck.
Ducks can be adopted for a donation of $5 each, or you can adopt five ducks and receive a sixth duck free for a donation of $25. Persons donating $25 or more for duck adoptions will be entered into an additional drawing for a $100 gift card to Boomerang Carwash in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Great Texarkana Duck Race. Adoptions will be available online at christusstmichaelfoundation.org until 12 noon on Friday, Aug. 22, or by calling Duck Central at 903-614-7223 until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22. Duck adoption papers can be obtained at Duck Central, CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System, 2600 St. Michael Drive, Texarkana, Texas.
Proceeds from previous Duck Races amounting to over $1.5 million have helped to build the Pediatric Unit and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of CHRISTUS St. Michael, benefited area cancer patients, purchased a patient transport van, and more.
