The deal must be approved by the board of directors, but it looks like Jeff Long is getting a nice raise along with a contract extension.

If approved, Long's annual salary will increase to $900,000 per year as of July 1, 2013 and he could earn up to $300,000 in other incentives. The contract would go through June of 2017 and has a $1 million buyout for the first two years.

With Arkansas in the hunt for a new head football coach, this move is most likely designed to let potential candidates know that the AD that hired them will be there for at least the new few years.

I say this is a good move by the UA. Many fans are still upset with Long for firing Bobby Petrino and hiring John L. Smith as the interim head coach, but I don't think he had much of a choice at the time. He's done an excellent job fund raising and building Arkansas' athletic programs and I hope he's here for many years to come!
