There is a new Texas artist in country music and her name is Genevieve Allen. This week I had the distinct pleasure of meeting her for the first time as she makes her way across the country for a radio tour. In this business radio tours are a way for record companies to introduce newly signed artists to their label and get their music out there to be heard by the listeners.

Genevieve has just released her debut single  "Rob That Train," which she co-wrote with label mate Adam Fears. Allen was raised in the Gulf coast region of Texas near Galveston and grew up competing in rodeos and working horses. At a very early age she studied piano but found her calling in country music when a best friend was listening to a Houston radio station and Genevieve heard Garth Brooks. That's all it took for her to start to learn the music of her heroes like George Strait, Chris LeDoux, Merle Haggard and many others who wrote songs about her world of rodeo and horses.

Genevieve was determined to begin writing her own songs and the very first song she wrote was about a cowboy, a girl, and a rodeo -- your tragic love song which made it onto her first album Whiskey Kisses released in 2014.

In talking with with her I could tell she really had a passion for country music and storytelling, something that is synonymous with making a country record. If you want an artist who represents the traditional sound of country mixed with a little of the modern gritty rock sound of today, then you've found a very unique artist.

When you see Genevieve perform live you see the same passionate person who writes about her way of life, the rodeo and wide open spaces. In fact, she told me she can't stand still when she sings, she has to interact with the crowd even jumping off the stage to get into the fan faithful.

In 2016, she had the honor of recording her first three singles in Nashville's legendary Hillbilly Central studio. The same studio where country legends Waylon Jennings and Tompall Glaser recorded their outlaw sound of the mid '70s.

Genevieve's first single is "Rob That Train" and is reminiscent of the outlaw sound with her own perspective.

"Writing that song just took on its own life," she said. A video of the single is forthcoming. You can hear  "Rob That Train" on Kicker and her website. You can purchase a copy soon on iTunes and Spotify. Be sure to visit her Facebook page, too.

As I wrapped up my interview I joked with her saying, "It's been awhile since country music has had a Queen of country not since Reba so it's about time for Queen Genevieve. She laughed, and said "I really like that."

If her first single is any indication, this country girl from Texas who wears a cowboy hat has a promising future in the country music industry.
