Daily Table Tackles Problem Of Food Waste
Did you know that in the United States, 40 percent of food gets thrown away? Being frugal with food isn’t anything new for residents of Texarkana. However, not all restaurants or grocery stores are on the same page in regard to food waste.
There are some people like David Rauch, former President of Trader Joe’s, who want to change the way we think of food that is close to its expiration date. By early next year in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Rauch will open a market called “Daily Table,” according to NPR.
The market will repackage and prepare foods that are slightly past the sell by date. The idea is to take the food that normally would be thrown away, and prepare a entree to sell at “prices that compete with fast food.” Nutritious food prepared inexpensively, now that’s what I call a deal!
