Defensive miscues hurt Arkansas High's softball team in a 5-3 loss to Ashdown Monday at Ladyback Field.

Arkansas High jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when Jasmine Allen scored on a single off the bat of Anna Claire Timmons.

Ashdown got on the board in the third when Timmons walked a batter with the bases loaded. Ashdown scored another run in the third on a bunt single over the head of Arkansas High third baseman Natalie Hamilton.

With the score 2-1, Kaitlin Eaves came in to pitch for the Ladybacks in the fourth inning. Ashdown went up 3-1 when Arkansas High's catcher Morgan White attempted to throw out a runner going to third on a wild pitch and the ball went into left field. Ashdown added a second run in the fourth inning to make the score 4-1.

After Eaves singled to center field, Hamilton lined a double to left field to put the Ladybacks back to within two.

Ashdown added an insurance run in the seventh inning to make the score 5-2. Timmons, who drew a lead off walk in the bottom of the seventh, came around to score on a fielder's choice but the Ladybacks were unable to mount a rally.
