Florida Georgia Line Credit Fans for 2017 ACM Awards Nominations
When Florida Georgia Line attend the 52nd annual ACM Awards on April 2, the country duo will be up for an impressive five honors. Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley are nominated in the categories of Vocal Duo of the Year, Album of the Year, Vocal Event of the Year, Single Record of the Year and Entertainer of the Year, and they say that their multiple nods are “humbling and gratifying.”
In 2016, FGL released the honest and vulnerable Dig Your Roots, and the guys readily admit that they put their heart and soul into the project, their third studio offering. But even as their hard work pays off, Kelley and Hubbard still point back to their fans as the main reason for their success.
“We make these albums, we put our lives to the music, and put them out there for our fans and we go tour on them,” Kelley tells Rolling Stone. “And it’s super special to see how the studio translates to the road and the tour and amphitheaters and festivals and different kinds of people. Whether we take home the trophy [or not], we’re winning because of our fans.”
The wide range of Florida Georgia Line’s 2017 ACM Awards nominations proves that the guys busted their butts in 2016. Of course, Dig Your Roots is up for Album of the Year, but FGL also have two separate songs nominated: The album’s lead single, “H.O.L.Y.,” is up for Single Record of the Year, while their collaboration with Tim McGraw, “May We All,” is up for Vocal Event of the Year. Additionally, their Vocal Duo and Entertainer of the Year nods take into account Florida Georgia Line’s massive Dig Your Roots Tour, which the duo first embarked on last March.
“The more you live and travel also helps you evolve, and I think our music has evolved as well,” Hubbard tells RS. “It goes hand in hand, and I think that helps [us] stay relevant and fresh and continue to evolve. BK says we never want to [make] the same record twice, and that’s so true — we always want to continue to push ourselves.”
While an Entertainer of the Year win would be primarily in recognition of Florida Georgia Line’s music and touring in 2016, Hubbard and Kelley say that the nomination acts as motivation in their personal lives as well.
“To be in the Entertainer of the Year category is a dream come true — just to be nominated — so it motivates us to continue to work hard and push ourselves to be better artists, better husbands, better guys — all that stuff,” Hubbard tells People. “It’s gonna be a big night for us. It feels like a big year, so we’re just excited to be a part of country music and the ACMs again. It feels great.”
The 2017 ACM Awards are set to take place in Las Vegas, Nev., on April 2, and air live on CBS beginning at 8PM ET. For the first time ever, the show will take place at T-Mobile Arena; Luke Bryan and Dierks Bentley will return as co-hosts.
