Do you believe in ghosts? Are you scared of things that go bump in the night? Have you ever been touched by something supernatural? Well, these questions and more will be answered at the First East Texas Ghost Conference in Marshall, Texas on August 18.

Marshall, Texas has become a hotbed for paranormal activity. For example, there is the woman's face that appears in the window of the historic courthouse late at night, an empty rocking chair that rocks back and forth, a house where the lights go on and off at random times of night and no electrician can explain why.

Marshall’s wealth of paranormal phenomena was uncovered last October during an paranormal investigation of Marshall’s old City Hall by Unknown Paranormal of Longview, Texas. Recognizing the city as an untapped source of things that go bump in the night, the group decided that Marshall would be the perfect site for East Texas’ first Ghost Con, to be held from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Marshall Visual Arts Center, 208 E. Burleson St.

What’s a Ghost Con? It’s a conference for paranormal professionals, would-be investigators of paranormal activity, and people who just want to know more about the supernatural and unexplained and how to go about investigating it.

Guest speakers include Everyday Paranormal founders Brad and Barry Klinge of San Antonio, from the Discovery Channel series “Ghost Lab” and the new Internet series, “The Dead Truth.”

Clairvoyant medium and psychic paranormal investigator Dakota Lawrence, of Shreveport, La. who has appeared on “Children of the Grave II” on SyFy/Spooked TV, will host a special gallery reading.

Other speakers include Larry Flaxman, best-selling author of several books on paranormal subjects; Mitchel Whitington of Jefferson, author and lecturer on the paranormal; and paranormal investigators and founders of paranormal organizations in Louisiana and Texas.

Other events include an Historic/Ghost Walk of downtown Marshall and a nighttime cemetery tour.
