It’s the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth Watermelon Weigh-off

The place to be this Labor Day weekend is the Old Washington Farmer's Market at Historic Washington State Park for the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth Watermelon Weigh-off.

Let's be honest, whenever I hear the words Great Pumpkin I think of the Charlie Brown cartoon. So, I guess saying, "It's the Great Watermelon, Charlie Brown," doesn't quite have the same ring to it but we are talking large.

Top 3 Largest Watermelons

The Great Pumpkin Commonwealth Watermelon Weigh-of will take place behind the City Hall of Washington, Arkansas on Saturday, September 2, beginning at 11 AM. The weigh-off is for watermelons only with the Top 3 largest watermelons taking home the top prizes, $500 First Place, Second Place $300, and Third Place taking home $200.

There will also be a Youth category for 14-years-olds and younger taking home $75 for First Place, $50 for Second Place, and Third Place wins $25.

The Great Pumpkin Commonwealth allows growers to weigh not just watermelon but a variety of fruits and vegetables across the country. Prizes will be awarded for the largest weighed item of its type.

The Old Washington Farmer’s Market will be set up to sell watermelons and other produce after the weigh-off and there's nothing like adding some watermelon or other fresh produce to your Labor Day festivities.
