Hank Williams Jr., Justin Moore and Chris Janson brought fans back to the late 1980s with a rousing performance of “Born to Boogie” at the 2016 CMA Music Festival, which aired on Wednesday (Aug. 3) as part of the CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock television special.
The special, hosted by Brett Eldredge and Thomas Rhett, featured many top-notch performances, but “Born to Boogie” was one of the most energetic. With a full band in tow, including a saxophonist and trumpet player, Williams Jr., Moore and Janson got the crowd on its feet. Each singer took a verse from the song, and as readers can see in the video above, they each had loads of fun.
“Born to Boogie,” written and recorded by Williams Jr., was released in June of ’87, as the title track and lead single from his album of the same name. It became a No. 1 hit.
Other superstar pairings featured as part of the CMA Fest TV special included Dierks Bentley and Elle King, Luke Bryan with Keith Urban, Eldredge and Rhett, Lady Antebellum with Cam, Little Big Town and Pharrell Williams, Rascal Flatts with Maren Morris, Steven Tyler with Martina McBride and Chris Young with Cassadee Pope.
