Much like former Democratic President Bill Clinton — who went on late night TV playing the sax — President Barack Obama is using music to connect with a potential pool of voters. With the 2012 election nipping at his heels as he seeks re-election, the commander-in-chief has released a 28-track playlist via Spotify for his upcoming campaign.

Obama shared the playlist via his Twitter feed. The campaign playlist features a host of country artists, among them Zac Brown Band, Sugarland, Darius Rucker and Dierks Bentley. Looks like Obama has a hankering for country!

The country cuts that Obama chose — or that his handlers chose — have anthemic qualities. Some of the songs he selected include ZBB’s ‘Keep Me in Mind,’ Bentley’s ‘Home,’ Sugarland’s ‘Stand Up’ and ‘Everyday America” and Rucker’s ‘Learn to Live’ and ‘This.’ He must really dig Sugarland and Rucker, since they have two songs each on this list.

The playlist also boasts plenty of pop and rock, showing off his wide array of tastes — and overall, the list certainly targets voters and their interests. It certainly designed to make one think, “Obama listens to this music? Cool, so do I!”

Obama has factored music into the 2012 campaign before. He included a few country acts (though they weren’t aware) on his list of surrogates he hoped would endorse his campaign.
