Texarkana's Women for the Arts is proud to present their annual Party with Picassos on Saturday, March 24 at 7PM. The event fundraiser will be held at the Texarkana, Texas Convention Center with cocktails and art viewing beginning at 6:30PM. The 19th annual event has become a premiere event for the four-state region raising close to one-million dollars to support TRAHC’s mission.

According to a press release, Party with Picassos event organizers, Robin Proctor and Judy Jones, said the “Picassos” event has grown since its inception and builds in popularity with party-goers each year because of its unique format.

“It’s an event like no other- it’s our community’s own celebrity art auction,” Proctor said. “Each year, local artists are paired up with a community member to create original works of art together. The artist serves as a coach by guiding the project and encouraging the community member as they complete the art piece. The works vary in design and style and include watercolor and oil paintings, to metal sculpture, and furniture, among other types of works. It’s so fun to see the finished products featuring works by the unlikeliest of artists!"

To build momentum leading up to the art auction on Saturday night, WFA members host two additional events during the week to allow more people the opportunity to view the art pieces up close before bidding begins. The week’s events kick-off with a High Tea set for Tuesday, March 20, from 4:00- 5:30PM at the home of Michele and Brian Daugherty. Then, on Thursday, March 22, patrons holding tickets to attend Saturday night’s event, are invited to attend a preview party at the TRAHC building beginning at 6:30PM to honor the artists, celebrity artists, and event sponsors.

Organizers said this year’s art auction event features more than forty art pieces and a signature art piece by Texarkana native, Tyler Arnold.

“Tyler is a very talented artist who has a passion for giving back to the Texarkana community,” said Jones. “His contribution is a large acrylic and mixed-media painting titled "The Daily Double." It is a vibrant piece featuring the exhilaration of racehorses during a highly competitive race at a track. It’s design evokes the thrill you experience as a spectator on race day when your horse is coming in for the win."

As unique as the organization, Texarkana’s Women for the Arts (WFA) provides volunteer and financial support for the programs, shows, and exhibits brought to our community by the Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council.
